According to mythology, when Sati was sacrificed, Lord Shiva picked up her body and every place where remains of her fell “Shaktipeeths’” was made. Sati’s left eye is believed to have fallen in the place where Nainital is today.
The Naini lake is said to have originated out of Sati’s tears. Due to the presence of so many lakes, it rains almost every afternoon in Nainital. Nainital is older than Jesus Christ and was formerly addressed as Khadesh.
