Koraput, Odisha
In today’s time, mining has caused the loss of a few of the most precious minerals. For someone interested in knowing about these should surely give Koraput a try because of its rich minerals like Manganese, Aluminum ore and Limestones. The Koraput town in southwest Odisha is a 3000 ft elevated town decorated with the beauties of waterfalls, hills, valleys, forests, and museums. It has the Kolab Reservoir that generates Hydro-Electric Power. It is a great place for weekend runaways and viewing water falls from 175m of height.
The tribal museum, formed in April 1936, presents the culture and heritage of the tribe living there. It has a great collection of costumes, hand-woven clothes, musical instruments, etc. We also have Nandapur which is famous for a 32 stepped relic linked with the fabled throne of Vikramaditya.
And the diamond to the crown is the caves and tunnels in the town. Maliguda is India’s highest broad gauge railway tunnel. The famous caves include The Gupteshwar limestone cave temple on Ramgiri Hill and Raja Cave & Balmiki Ashram. They are scenic and best for trekking. Korput is hence famous for Eco and Cave tourism.
