Jaisalmer, Rajasthan
The Golden City of India, Jaisalmer, is located on the Indo-Pak Border. It got its name because of the yellow sandstone throughout the architecture of the fort and the town below. The city was named after Maharaj Rawal Jaisal. The Maharaj built the Jaisalmer Fort on the Trikuta Hill. The fort walls were used as a defence mechanism against Ala-ud-Din Khilji.
Gadisar lake was built near the Jaisalmer Fort in 1367 and was the only source of water in those times. It has the world’s ninth-largest tropical desert- ‘The Thar Desert’ that got its name from the word ‘Thul’.’ This desert covers over 200,000 km of land forming the natural boundary between India and Pakistan.
If you are the daring one, then a visit to Jaisalmer’s Kaldhara and similar villages must enchant you. These villages were reported to be deserted in a single night leaving no sign of life there.
