The Blue City, Jodhpur is the second-largest city in Rajasthan. The Thar Desert-located in the city is one of the oldest. The story behind the name of Jodhpur dates back to ancient times when the blue colour (depicting Lord Shiva) was used to highlight houses of some specific castes. Later, everyone started painting their house blue as a sign of equality.
Jodhpur, also known as the ‘Sun City’ was an integral part of the Solar Mission under Jawaharlal Nehru. It is the world’s largest solar park and was laid by the Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy.
The ruler of Jodhpur built one of the largest Mehrangarh Fort in India in the 15th Century. Jodhpur is home to some of the most famous dishes including Dal bati churma, Ghevar, Malpua, Gatte ki sabzi, Atte ka halwa and Besan ki barfi.
The Marwar festival and the Nagaur festival are the two most famous festivals in Jodhpur. One can witness its rich culture, collection of handicrafts and a great history of kings and queens on coming here.
